Mason
The Basics
♥ Character Name: Mason Kisai
♥ Age: 17
♥ Sex: Male
♥ Species: Hybrid
♥ Occupation: None/Student
♥ Faceclaim(optional): Working on it. Have a WIP above.
Mason is a thin, wiry, and unimpressive hybrid who has inherited the human traits of his family line more strongly than that of his poor deceased sister who looked more monstrous. His skin is a very light blue, though he sometimes covers it with makeup, and his eyes are a bright yellow, also sometimes covered with contacts. His hair is naturally a black color, but he highlights it a bluish color. He also has small blue horns on his head. He looks Asian-american, and he gets his monster traits from his mother's side.
Strengths/Abilities
He knows very little when it comes to the actual magic department. He can shoot blue fireballs but that's about it. He is however an extremely skilled illusionist, channeling magic into his act subconsciously. He is an absolute master at legerdemain and prestidigitation. He doesn't just pull coins from your ears, he sneaks live doves into your pockets and when you check them they fly away and turn into coins. So he's a really A+++ magician. He is also a very good parkour runner, having had to escape from bullies and authorities during his teenage years. He is an EXPERT actor and liar, and has in his life so far convinced strangers that he was a foreign emperor, a Russian circus dwarf, and an actual alien.
He has been known to present odd powers of levitation from time to time. He cannot exactly 'fly' but he can hover short distances. Like if there's a fence in front, he can sort of 'climb an invisible staircase' to get over it. Or if he needs to jump between rooftops, he can walk across invisible pathways. It's always only for short distances, and he can't hover higher than 10 feet above any given surface, nor can he hover for more than a few seconds of time.
He is also a talented lock picker and escape artist.
Inabilities/Weaknesses
Physically speaking he's pretty inept. Humans could beat him with fists, monsters could probably also beat him with fists, or magic attacks. When it comes to ventures of the mind, he is no genius either... Well, I mean, he is VERY smart, but he's no scientist or anything. So he can't figure out sophisticated technology. Simple contraptions, like those used for magic tricks he's good with, but nothing advanced. He also has a terrible knack for getting into ridiculous amounts of trouble. No joke, despite his age, he's had to fake his death three times.
Personality
Mischievous scamp doesn't even come close. He is a swindler, a thief, and a charismatic flirt. While he is in fact gay, he is not averse to wooing women because he loves getting attention. He is pretty close to a chaotic good alignment, who scoffs at society's rules, but always does good anyway. He is not above breaking laws if it suits him, but he will never do so where such law breaking will hurt others. Will he steal from a fancy hotel that's pretentious and rude to its guests? Oh heck yes. Will he steal from the poor convenience store owner who gets robbed a lot? No way! In fact he'll rob the robbers and return the money.
Life Story
Mason's ancestral family were among the monsters caught outside the barrier when it first went up. His ancestors were both large, blue-skinned creatures that looked very similar to Japanese Oni. Though possible they might have helped inspire the legend, they kept to themselves hidden away in the wilderness for a very long time. Their descendant, a purebred monster, had a light enough shade of skin that she could actually get away with human interactions, assuming she did so during the winter, when snow made her skin look pinker. His mother is actually quite similar in a appearance to the yuki-onna which appears in Japanese folklore as well.
Regardless, she eventually moved to a city close to Mount Ebott in hopes of reconnecting with other people, and fell in love with a local human. They got married in secret, giving birth to fraternal twins Maria and Mason. There was initially concern about Mason's future due to his blue skin tone, so his kindergarten and 1st Grade education took place at home. Then, when the barrier broke, and monsters re-joined the population, Mason was enrolled in a regular school. Toriel's school in fact.
Ten years of being a blue-skinned kid with horns, and being taunted by humans for it, has led Mason to develop a sardonic wit and despairing cynicism towards authority figures. Coupled with the accidental death of his sister in an unfortunate, but not uncommon automobile accident, has caused Mason to act out more-so than ever. He's stolen from organized crime, politicians, and high-ranking monster ambassadors before, so he's make a few enemies.
Sample Roleplay
"Ladieeees and Gentlemen!" He clapped once, catching their attention, and diverting their searchlights his way. While the goons scrambled to produce their guns, they suddenly found all of their bullets had gone missing.
"May I have your undivided attention please!" He clapped twice then opened his bag where he rifled through hundreds of ammunition clips. "As you may have no doubt noticed, I have relieved you of your bullets. It's MAGIC! But that's not all. Tonight, I will perform the most AMAZING feat. Tonight, I will make this golden bust of Asgore containing a USB drive with the account passwords for literally thousands of online bankers... to disappear!" He pulled the golden bust out of his bag. He'd actually swipe the USB last week, but tonight's performance would seal the deal.
"And now the magic words! Tnuocca knab ym otni hsinav eutats dlog ekaf siht ekam!" He clicked on a smoke pellet, and returned the idol to his satchel. "And PRESTO! It's gone!"
He clapped thrice. "Thank you! Thank you! You've been a wonderful audience!" Then he leapt off the wall, and vanished into the night.
