Strengths/Abilities
+Aimi is generally likeable; making friends comes easily to her and she's a positive, pleasant person to be around. Of course, because she believes monsters are people and they deserve respect and compassion, humans who disagree with such a fact may dislike her but that's only to be expected.
+She's a talented singer. Music comes naturally to her, and she has a pleasant voice. It's not jaw-dropping, but it's pretty and she sings well (and enjoys it).
+She's also very creative and a decent writer. She won't be writing any best sellers, but she can write some nice stories that people enjoy reading.
+Elaine is happy and sunshine and cheerful. She's going to cheer people up just by being around them, because how can you resist that adorable face with her nigh-constant smile?
Inabilities/Weaknesses
-Aimi has a martyr-like personality; she is self-sacrificing to the point where it can be detrimental for herself. She also craves the approval of others, as she has a lot of issues with self-confidence. It would be easy to manipulate her, such is her want to help others. Such is her belief in others that she's not really scared of people. She displays caution - perhaps too much caution - when her daughter is involved, but she can be reckless with her trust of people's good intentions when it comes to herself.
-She doesn't have a lot of energy. She finds herself tired very easily, and it's hard for her to keep up even with Elaine.
-She has untreated anxiety that she tries to keep secret. She finds it silly and attempts to rationalize it away, but overall her anxiety builds. She can be a bit neurotic because of this, and tends to be somewhat needy around good friends. All this besides the random panic attacks that prevent her from functioning while they happen.
-Elaine is young. She's a kid. She just doesn't have experience or knowledge or even the ability to always form coherent sentences.
Personality
Every bit of Aimi is warm and welcoming and loving and kind. She is compassionate, the sort of person to give of self so that others may be happy. She is the sort of person to sacrifice of herself to her detriment, and she would give almost anything to aid another being. She's very used to volunteering and giving money they can spare to people who need help.
She is very much pro-monster-rights and believes that monsters should be treated just like humans. They're people, after all. She has some monster friends, and, of course, her husband is a monster. This acceptance spreads to other humans - all religions, races, orientations, identities... she accepts these things without debate and treats everyone like an individual worthy of respect and love (because thy are, of course).
Friends are fairly easy for Aimi to make. She's a social butterfly, someone who loves to be around others, and with a pleasant people-pleasing disposition people generally enjoy being around her.
Aimi has trouble believing she is capable. She just doesn't believe in herself. She thinks she's a nice, good person, but she just doesn't see herself as being very able. Her parents were always encouraging when she was little, but she has come to convince herself they were just being nice. And when people say she's done something well, they are, again, just being nice. She just doesn't view herself as capable. She requires endless support, and with such a view she has a constant underlying guilt because her husband and family must take care of her. She worries, every day, that she will fail her daughter. She has not voiced these concerns aloud, but people who are close with Aimi probably have some clue as to her negative view of herself.
As for others? Aimi believes in second chances. And third chances, and fourth, and fifth... She believes anyone can change if given the chance, that anyone can be good. So she is always forgiving and always willing to give people the chance to change and the benefit of the doubt. Hard days cause people to lash out; ignorance can prevent people from seeing the truth.
However, she can be somewhat possessive. It's no problem for her to give up material things, but she's very protective of both her daughter and her husband. She gets nervous and antsy whenever her husband is away for too long, with almost a paranoid, anxious panic. She worries every time she doesn't have Elaine in sight or know exactly where her daughter is and knows her daughter won't be moving elsewhere. She's even prone to a bit of jealousy when her husband is around certain people, though she ignores this jealousy and tells herself she's being ridiculous. The protective panic even comes into play with her parents and siblings, but she's worked hard to be able to detach herself from needing to know their every move.
Elaine is a toddler, with a toddler-like naivety and wonder for the world. She doesn't know much of pain or anything dark, and she believes in both people and herself. She can be selfish and has thrown a temper tantrum or two, but overall is a bright, happy-go-lucky kid who loves her Mommy and Daddy and is happy to love everyone who ever pays attention to her.
Life Story
If there was one thing instilled in her, it was to love above all else. The youngest daughter of five siblings, their family was almost perfect. Oh, there were sibling rivalries and sometimes her parents would be overwhelmed and snap at their children, but it was like those families you see on TV. A warm, loving family that, despite all its flaws, came together at the end of the day and overcame every obstacle.
And this love expanded past their family - extra money wasn't spent on themselves, but given to people who needed it. Christmas involved presents and volunteering. The family gave and cared.
And when the barrier opened ten years ago, her family was one of the first to welcome the monsters with open arms, to try and forge a friendship.
Perhaps it was only natural she would fall in love. After dating a monster, she declared her eventual engagement.
For all their compassion, her family was shocked. However, while her father's disapproval came in the form of loud disappointment, her siblings and mother came to accept this after only a month. If she was happy, they were happy for her.
So it was her husband was welcomed into her family. Her immediate family, that is. As far as her extended family is concerned - well, opinions are divided. Some say she doesn't exist; some are impressed by her open-mindedness; some say she's family but they don't improve; so on and so forth.
After being married for a little while, even her father came to accept it. And while the rest of her extended family all of their opinions, she's happy with life.
It wasn't long into her marriage before she approached the topic of children with her new husband. Her husband agreed that he, too, wanted to have children.
The two researched and hunted down all the information they could on hybrids, and eventually with the aid of magic she managed to get pregnant.
The birth of her daughter was a day that was happier for her than even her wedding day. She named the child Elaine, meaning 'light', for this babe was the light of her life.
Her daughter has grown up knowing she is loved immensely by both her parents.
The biggest regret of the child's mother, however, is that she must be very careful to not share any of her child's more monsterous traits among humans. At home, with family, and among monsters she gladly - even proudly - lets her daughter be herself. But alas, most humans are not nearly so accepting as her family, and so she takes care to avoid her daughter suffering.
Now, her daughter is almost three years old and is all bright smiles and sunshine. If you asked the mother what perfection was, her answer would be "this". She has everything she could ever want.
Sample Roleplay
The woman sighed at the computer screen and pushed herself away, stretching. It was perfect timing - the small noises came from her daughter's room to indicate the child was awake. She stood up, stretched some more, and then headed into the room. There Elaine was, smiling even though she had just woken up from a nap.
Aimi couldn't help but smile back. She picked the girl up, wrapping her in a hug. "How was your nap, sweetheart?" she asked.
"Was good. How's yours?" Elaine replied. Aimi laughed and told her it was just fine.
"Mommy has to do some shopping. Are you going to bring a friend?" Aimi asked, setting her child down. Elaine looked around her room, before deciding on a well-loved stuffed cat out of her toys.
"Le's go!" she said, already eager.
"Shoes first," Aimi told her, amused. She quickly tied up the girl's purple tennis shoes, and with that the two left the house to go shopping.
Of course, that was just the start of things. Little kids were never easy to take anywhere.
