Strengths/Abilities
Graffiti Artist -Ever since he was a kid he loves art and has always wanted to pursue making art as a career. However as he got older he wasn't sure what art style he felt sung to him, until one day he was walking to school and found a person spray painting a wall. The art style was so unique and almost pulled him in like his shadows often did. Strangely instead of bolting out of there the spray painted saw the kid's awe in his style and let him actually help finish it off giving a small different flair to it. This set him on the path to become a graffiti artist taking a few years till he finally came up with his own unique style of painting that he and a few others took a liking to. It's especially good since he makes a living off it.
Shadowman- Beings who live and embody shadows they are ellusive race that often keeps to themselves. However that hasn't stopped others to promote the fables and horror stories about their race, however though some abilities are exaggerated, some exaggerations are made by truth.
- Shadowwalk
- To a Shadowman, any shadow in their sight is a homely sight. They can literally join the shadow, melting their bodies in a sense to access a place called the Shadow World where every nearby shadow around them acts as a gateway they can access. If someone is holding onto a Shadowperson while they are shadowwalking they can join them in this world but it's very dangerous for them, the longer a non shadow entity stays in that world the more the world it self tries to bind them to that world turning them into literal darkness unable to escape. Shadowpeople have this risk as well but their bodies resist this binding for a lot longer length of time. - Shadowarmor
-To protect the Shadowman from harm and to allow them access to enhanced strength they can form a shadowy armor on their body to protect them from damage and boost their physical strength. This ability only last for a limited amount of time, heavily draining the Shadowperson's stamina so to compensate most will only produce this on certain sections of their body like their arms and legs to last longer. If a person is in contact with a Shadowperson and use this ability they can transfer it to others but only for a limited amount of time if they aren't in contact with them but it will drain the other person's energy. - Shadowform
-Using their own shadow to produce a shadowy ooze they can use to create tendrils of darkness, or construct objects made of this dark substance. Using their own shadow the range, strength, and ability to construct an object is very limited. However this can be amplified if they enter a larger shadow than there's but as the same with the rest of their abilities it drains them physically. This can be counteracted by a large degree of light on the shadow will erase the power for a limited time. - Nightvision
Inabilities/Weaknesses
Because he's a Shadowman, light is his natural enemy, like an eraser board any shadow that he produces comes in contact in any source of strong light just fades away and dissapears. He also is limited range of his powers only able to extend those tendrils to half a meter at best so if he gets in a fight he has to put it in his own favor. Those tendrils are part of his body so if they are damaged he will feel the pain.
Because of the persecution of his family he doesn't fit well in trusting others, and those who try got to push themselves to show him their trustworthy. He also has a large distaste for humans, keeping his distance from them as much as he could. What he may dislike just as bad as humans is law enforcement, and always goes out his way to stick it to them and annoy them to no end. He is somewhat arrogant from his abilities making him seem untouchable but anything that through a him for a loop can send him hurtling for the shadows for safety.
He also a smoker and is a bit dependent on them. If he doesn't have one around or even on his person he gets irritable, loses focus on anything he does, or doesn't want to do it without a cigarette. Though he can and has used substitutes like e-cigarettes and sometimes candy sticks hanging in his teeth will work. If he is stressed though he can't handle the substitute and needs the real thing to calm him down.
Personality
A guy who likes to do things on his own rhythm he's somewhat fickle about mostly anything that isn't, music, food, animals, or art in general. Despite taking a more modern art form he enjoys all forms of it and can sometimes be caught gazing at it for hours sometimes trying to get a vibe from it. Preferring to relax at home that's never silent thanks to a few record players, a boom box, and loads of records, cassettes and cd's. He prefers old tech but if it plays good he isn't gonna turn down a song on a new device or a smartphone. He loves animals and doesn't show much fear of them except a freak out or two around spiders, he won't kill them but they still creep him out.
He may say he has a dislike for humans but deep down he doesn't mean it though, he isn't one to get chummy with them either quickly, though he tries not to discriminate to many things has happened in his life to change his mind. Though for sure on his hate list is the police, seeming them instead of officers of the law they are crooks with authority that only serve the rich and influential and they don't see eye to eye. If the opportunity presents itself he will spray tag a cop car or even the police station especially at night to irritate them. The rich as well don't fit well in his mind and becomes rude and obnoxious around them to "show them a taste of their own medicine* He isn't afraid to use his powers either making a bit of a spectacle before running off and have anyone chasing him mystified on how he just dissapeared. He keeps calm most of the time but get him angry, rationality flies out the window and can lead to those he cares about getting hurt.
Life Story
Aesop's family have always been plauged with grief, the beginning was not being able to make it to Mount Ebbot during the monster's exile. However they would adapt like they always had. They first decided to hide in plane sight, living in the forest near the mountains and going into to town sneaking into the human's houses during the night as they slept to obly steal what they needed. This however brought the stories from children and some adults about "Shadowpeople" bringing to life the fable now heard today. They lived the simple life taking what they needed and living peacefully, but some were still harboring hatred for the humans and disdain for stealing from those they belied were beneath them. Others believed they deserved revenge and taking what was once there's. However their plan lead to them stealing from one of the lineage of wizards that locked their people in the moutain so longe ago. They manage to sneak inside the house using their abilities and stole the wizard's riches. Though one member didn't want to simply stop there and killed he wizard's only daughter in her sleep. Sickened with grief and anger the wizard tracked down the Shadowmen and found their hideout. They burnt it to the ground and slaughtered the rest of the family except one, Aesop's father Coyek. Not being there going to bring firewood, luckily he survived and fled the scene. But he was homeless, lost his family, and felt like just giving up finding no point in living after losing everything. However in his spiral into despair something was tripped by his legs and surprised him. What he encountered was a clutz of a woman named Rize. He helped her up and asked why she was there and told him she was taking a walk and ended up getting loss finding her home. She was infact blind and since she lived alone she was looking for one of her marks on what direction her home may be. However Coyek soon had to become her eyes and ears looking for the marks she placed and eventually finding her cottage.
There he first spent the first few days as a helping hand, tiding up her place that wasn't well kept. As well as being blind she was also a writer and had things in a chaotic disarray. Coming into her life he was able to organize everything for her. However as they spent more time together the more they spent talking and him finding out about her past, she had always been blind since she was born and this had hard effects on her parents. While her mother accepted and loved her the same, the father wanted a son and was secretly irritated that she was blind as well. He became a drunk and him and her wife would argue till she hit him and after that she left with Rize and decided to live together in the forest. She taught her everything how to read Braile, how to write, and was the source of her first book about a woman knight managing to rise to the task of defending and ruling her kingdom. Her work was well recieved and popular so she was able to make money but had trouble going into town and buying what she needed. Though soon that task would fall to Coyek who snuck into town and disguise himself as a human normally wearing a hood to hide his shadowy figures and come back with food and anything else they needed. Soon this relationship would move into something more and a child would be born from it. Though Coyek wouldn't live long to see his child as he had gotten sick and later died. Though Rize could support both herself and Aesop she believed the forest wasn't a place to raise a child and was forced to make the decision of moving out their home and into the city taking an apartment and only taking a few things from their home. It was a simple life but a happy one, as Aesop grew he soon realized his talent for art and as he reached the age out of highschool he was dead set on becoming an artist. It was easy for him to go to school thanks to his humanistic traits but he had some trouble keeping his powers in check sometimes sinking into the shadows of his desk or if he leaned into a wall if he wasn't focusing. Others saw this and thought he was strange and bullied him, though at first he tried to ignore it got to the point to his bully picked a fight with him and Aesop pushed him into a shadow bringing the both of them into the shadowy realm that connects for all Shadowmen. He was later found in the schools bathroom crying headfirst into a toilet. Being the son of a cop he told his dad and as Aesop was heading for home a police car was parked in front of their apartment and he found his mother talking to the cop. Upon entering his home he was told to come with him and explain what was going on at the station. However Aesop never got into trouble like this before even when he spray painted some buildings. He bolted terrified wondering what he would do to escape. The cop managed to catch up to him and tried to take control of the situation pulling out the gun out of his holster to tell him he means business. Scared senseless he froze, not sure what to do trembling in fear. His mother chased them following the sound of footsteps and when she heard only the cop's, she knew something was wrong. She went into the alley way that the two men were in and tried to find her son but managed to bump into the cop. On instinct he turned and fired, thinking she was attacking him but was only mortified by what he done.
Aesop on the other hand had lost it. He blacked out in that moment and when he awoke, he and his mother was back home bleeding out, the cop was nowhere to be found. Terrified of her condition he ran to her and urged they get her to a hospital but it was too late for her. She however wanted to leave him with one message, to stay determined to live on, not fall and keep hope alive in his heart by remembering her and his father. She held on with every ounce of strength she had to hear him agree to those words and finally passed on. He was the only one to attend her funeral and he had hit a low that he didn't expect to recover, he made a promise after all. Though his heart is filled with grief he tries to find the positive and work on his dream. It's been a few months since her death and the wounds tear still. But he still holds onto the hope that maybe things would turn out better.
Sample Roleplay
It was around 2:30 pm when Aesop woke up from his nap, yawning as he rolled off his couch and onto the floor with a yelp. Messy tendrils of brown dreadlocks covered his shoulders and face as he now groaned holding his face and rolling upright. He didn't break it but if hurt landing on his nose. As he got up he looked at his watch and widened his eyes, he wanted to scope out another place to paint before 2:00 when it had the perfect light for an idea in his head. He still would go but not as cheery as he would be if he wasn't so late. He showered already so he didn't need a change of clothes, wearing a former white T-shirt now with splotches of paint that he simply liked and kept, even washing it so they effect would be permanent, this was probably the flashiest and most colorful thing he has in his wardrobe aside from a few. He grabbed the keys to the apartment and grabbed a backpack for emergencies or extra paint gear he couldn't keep on his belt.
Pretty quiet for a Sunday afternoon and around this time the family in 3B were inside for movie night, perfect time to leave before he got another loud action packed earful of a tasteless action movie. Opening the front door he pulled the key from his ring and locked the bottom and top ones before heading out. He had the choice to either take the long staircase down or the express route, more like his only express route. He strolled over to the elevator and clicked over the button but instead of waiting he simply walked off. There was a nice cozy shadow coming from the side of a window just around this time. Before he felt like it was the shadows were pulling him into them like gravity was switched for him but now it was like a strong breeze he could have pull at him stronger upon a whim. Once his foot touched the ground his body literally melted into the darkness, what he saw was his body...feeling weightless falling into a dark room with slivers of light of different sizes and shapes being exit ways for him. All he had to do was "swim" to the one he was looking for, and there it was. This apartment was so jacked up that whenever the elevator moved all the doors would open, this of course was a safety hazard that only got solved by signs saying, "Kids shouldn't play here," On all the floors but it became a good express pass for him when he wanted to be lazy and he was normally around to save those unlucky to fall in.
Almost appearing out of nowhere he peered his head around and not another soul to be found, lucky him as he walked out of the front door ready to paint the town red, he wished.
