Strengths/Abilities
Titanskin: Cadence boasts some astounding defence for a monster of her age and size. Combined with the fact that "aim for the head" is not a viable tactic, it can be pretty tricky to pinpoint how to go about fighting her.
She's electrifying!: Cadence posses a plethora of electrical attacks to help paralyze her opponents so she can slowly walk up on them all creepy like and
really get the battle started. As she ages and trains, her electric manipulation may expand to magnetism.
Weaponmaster: Dullahan's focus all of that brainpower on being the best at wielding their weapons of choice. Cadence's own is the axe and hammer, but she is finding them to be not as effective...perhaps a shield would do better? Or maybe...a gun?
Smooth moves: Being fairy-type creatures, the only time dullahan can move somewhat quickly is when they are dancing about. Thier style of combat tends to blend different types of dances to help keep them limber and unpredictable.
Inabilities/Weaknesses
Ironboots: Cadence, like the rest of her species, lacks the ability to run, sprint, jog, and even jump. All she can really do is walk and flap her little wings as hard as she can to lift a few feet off the ground. She is capable of doing these things in short bursts while dancing but..it's really embarrassing. This is the primary reason why her kind are iconic for their mounted combat.
She's...a brickhead: Cadence is among the smartest her kind has ever seen...but that isn't saying much. They are crazy spooky fight monsters, not scholars. They tend to "lose their heads" both figuratively and litterally more than most monsters. Again, Cadence is pretty calm and mature for her type, which puts her around the average hotheadedness of a D&D brawler.
Get with the times!: Those, uh, guns...they sure do pack a punch, huh? From a pretty far distance, too. Its kinda hard to keep someone from using those pesky things...
Tone deaf: First and foremost, dullahan cannot speak without a head that is capable of producing an echo is firmly placed on their necks. As one would expect, this means their words tend to be hard to comprehend and their voices off putting at best. Cadence was able to make this crippling weakness worse by somehow having a lisp, leaving her very insecure about her speaking voice.
Personality
Standing unpleasantly tall, rail thin, and having a metal face means that Cadence was destined to be a bit of an awkward, and she didn't disappoint. She is a bit of a quiet one who doesn't want to call attention to herself, yet she yearns for the friendships and connections she sees blooming all around her on a daily basis. So she lurks in the distance, watching the lovebirds cuddle and the cool girls laugh and sighs, wishing she could be that one day...yeah, watching people from a hiding spot is a little creepy, but give her a break. Humans tend to be offput by her looks and monsters by her metallic echo-y voice so their isn't much room for a social life.
But make no mistake, Cadence is certainly trying. Her parents did well in raising her away from their roots; she isn't even aware of most of the darker things she is capable of doing. Instead of being the barbaric brute she could be, Cadence has embraced a more "feminine" persona. She has a strong love for collecting different heads for herself, especially ones that other's encourage her to wear by telling her they are "cute" or "pretty". She has a strong love for things that are soft and cuddly as well. She so desperately wants to break the mold of her kind and just live a normal life in harmony with humans. Or she did. She still wants to, but the death of her parents has put her in a bit of a dark and troubled place. The usually calm and quiet Cadence is starting to get angrier and colder. She is being worn down by the pressure of breaking the cycle and are taking the steps towards following her parents to an early grave...
Life Story
Like many boss monsters, the dullahan existed long before the human and monster war ever began. Of the many elder monster races they were one more often classified as "evil" by the humans, but for a very good reason. The dullahan are a very...eccentric monster. Carnal and childish, these fae creature's primary game was manipulation and insanity-inducing situations. Their target of choice, of course, was humans. Some were just too intensely competitive and targeted humans because their fortitude was a challenge to boast about. Some were jealous of humans, often times leaving their heads for the young ones to find or dropping them on top of a human so that they can possess them and drive them to wild, often deadly antics. Needless to say, when the war finally came, the two had a mark out for each other.
While their tricks were very effective due to the element of surprise, the dullahan didn't stand a chance against a bunch of humans on the battlefield. They were nearly driven to extinction; only the sanest and gentlest of dullahan survived long enough to be sealed in the underground. Cadence's parents lived a relatively possitive life and had plenty of opportunities to redeem themselves. Eventually, Cadence was born, and spurred by the words of liberation from their king, her parents quickly prepared her for the surface world. Not with spells and weapons, but with books and knowledge. They wanted a better life for their daughter and figured the best way to go about that is to educate her in the best of her abilities.
Cadence grew up to love books and aspired to be a librarian or teacher when she got to the surface. But once their wish was granted, her family found adjusting to their lives with humans was...a bit challenging. The straight and narrow path wasn't looking so good, and in a last ditch effort to break surface in this new world, Cadence's parents reverted back to old ways. They found employment in defending humans who deserved to die 100 times over by and for less than legal means. But it wasn't all bad; these humans respected their abilities. They even
appreciated them. They became something like family and went as far as to help get Cadence into high quality schools.
Cadence found school to be quite challenging. She wasn't as intelligent as she initially thought she was and was often a target of bullying. She supposed it was fair; most monsters at least had a recognizable and cute face and were made of soft, rounded parts. Things didn't get much better when she got into college either. It was way out of her league and she felt that her godfamily had something to do with her acceptance. On top of that, harassment from humans seemed to be getting more aggressive. The tipping point for her was the day that her parents had been reduced to dust. In her life being the outcast, never did she feel so...alone. And with the growing disdain from her colleagues, it started to look all the more ideal to just pick up from where her parents left off.
Sample Roleplay
Cadence seemed to have lost her head again.
Judging by the somewhat circular shape of it and the clanging sound it made as it hit the floor, it probably rolled its way under something and would be troublesome to try to retrieve, but she would be leaving it for now. Both of her hands were occupied at the moment. Each one was carrying a helm familiar to her; the ones her parents had warn this morning. Flecks of gray drifted off of them from between her fingers and slowly touched upon the floor. From within the helms, which had been turned on their heads, was a pile of dust sitting neatly like a king and queen in their thrones.
She wanted to scream. She wanted to howl and cry out and curse the world for all the things she regretted never saying in their last visit despite
knowing good and well that any day could be their last day. But she had lost her head, and by extension, her voice. Instead, she just stood their as still as a statue.
"I'm really sorry, babyface," The human who had delivered them to her spoke. He was something like an uncle to her. He had been their for them during the best and worst of times. That was what she kept saying to herself to keep from kicking his teeth out. "Just so you know, this doesn't change anything. You are guys are like family, so if you need anything,
anything, just give us a call..." In the midst of his talking, Cadence began to walk away to her room. She didn't want to listen to his voice compete against the ringing sound that was invading her sense of hearing. The monster walked with heavy slow steps, slower than usual, to her bed. She placed he helms gently and carefully so that their content didn't spill and scatter and then walked to her closet. Cadence carefully folded and set blankets, clothes, and whatever soft things she could find around the closet floor in a makeshift shrine. They deserved better. They deserved so much better but at the moment this was all that she could do. Placing the helms onto the blanket, she closed the door and turned away, ready to go look for her dropped head.Instead, she felt herself crumbling to the ground leaning heavily against the closet door with her mind fixated on the reality that was behind it. Every part of her was filled with anguish, grief, and pain that wanted to force itself from her mouth that wasn't there. So instead, it was dead silence. But maybe it was for the best.
