It was another day, another dollar in the life of Xander Faust. He had to deal with far too much today. Linda had to have her cheerleading circle at the cafe today and the spent all day ordering the most disgusting, fake sounding, coffee drinks he'd made to date at the job. He wasn't a monster sympathizer by any stretch, but after seeing the opposition in action... using the most scum-worthy politics to get monster-kind excluded from basic school functions made him side against them. So he had enough with humanity for the night. The walk home would be a real test to his patience, but at least that much of him was intact. He took the fastest route to the side streets to avoid the conglomerations at the bars and now all those crazy Pokemon Go kids.
He let out a sigh of relief as the noise of population faded in between the buildings. Though the risk always rose when he wandered off the main roads it was always where he felt at home. Some of the smaller monsters always loomed around, but none would bother him as he never bothered any of them. He needed to get home so he could fulfill his next duty as his mother's caretaker. At least with the tips he got today he could afford a pizza to be delivered so he could avoid having to cook. Before him was a fence blocking him from the next alleyway. That never stopped him before. Without much effort he scaled it and hopped from the top to the other side. Something clanged on the ground as he made his landing. "Dammit..." He bent down to pick up the shiny, metal object. It was a formidable looking knife. He let it drag along the ground as he took it in his hand. Then he proceeded to flip it in the air and catch it in his hand.
Facing a four way split in the alley he felt something off about today. He extended the arm the knife was in and dragged it along the next building. Making a lot of noise and making himself known to anything that may or may not be there. He was not going to be anyone's easy hit. If someone wanted to make him an example of him they were not going to get by so easily. He began to hum a tune as his relieved the stress of the bad feeling he began to have. He stopped in his tracks and knew the encounter was about to begin. "I hope it's worth it... whoever you are."

Yet another day where Chara didn’t know what to do next. Her injuries from Winter had healed and she was not only looking for a place to sleep, but she was also looking fine. Well, despite the patches on her worn sweater that is. Stupid ice lady… she would ice her at one day.
Speaking of looking, something was odd at the part of town she was investigating right now. After all, when she started to lay was on humanity, she would have to know this city inside and out.
Suddenly she heard a noise from somewhere… had she lost her knife? Touching the hilt and feeling the weight of the weapon, it calmed her down. Without that one… well, she wasn’t very good killing people with her bare hands.
Still, her curiosity drove her to seek out whoever made the noise and with silent steps, she eventually found… a redhead. Normally she would have frowned, instead however she stood still and scanned him with her red eyes. Being assessed by those felt like the gaze of a wild animal ready to lunge at its victim.
Humans were disgusting; only interbreed like that ice woman was worse if you asked her.
Her criminal mind was processing all the information. Could she murder him with nobody noticing?
Well, when she saw his front face, the red eyes shone for a split second. Whoever this human was, these scars looked like he had danced with either Sans or Undyne at one point. And how his voice sounded. Annoyed? Impatient? Or… bored?
”Greetings.” how good she had her own knife underneath that sweater. What if he was a mugger? Then she could stab him in self-defense… beautiful…
”Nice knife.”

It was odd to see anyone else roaming around these back streets, let alone a girl. She looked pretty ragged... maybe she lived here? No... Xander took this route far too many times not to notice her before. "Um... hi." This was absolutely what he wanted to avoid. Xander couldn't help, but to think the girl had to come this far for some reason. Then she made reference to his knife of all things. It became consistently harder to get a read on her as time went on.
Xander approached the girl who beckoned him, non-threateningly. "Well... It gets the job done and 'bout all I could afford on a working salary." He balanced the blade effortlessly on two fingers. He paused and sighed some. "If this is what I think it is, it knows a few more tricks. I'm not really up to it right now, so might I suggest that we not." It was up to her where this went now. He moved to striking distance. Instead of striking with the knife he had he offered it to her. "Wanna try it?" The hilt was presented to her as the metal gleamed in the street light.
He knew he wasn't going to be completely defenseless if she accepted the blade, but again this was quite an experience beyond what he was expecting. He wanted to experiment and see where this could be going. He didn't want to be disappointed. Not like with the rest of what his life had to offer. The anticipation would be enough to allow a smirk to cross his features. "It's fine... Go ahead. You seem interesting enough." How would she take that? Perhaps if he were better at conversation he'd have come up with more intriguing dialog, but it was all he had to offer her.

That’s what Chara was doing. Visiting lots of different places. So this man greeted her back and explained what was up with that knife. Was he a butcher?
Well, he did a neat trick with the weapon, so that wasn’t that far off. However if there was something that could be seen in Chara’s widened eyes was disbelief, even though it was just for a split second. It was like getting offered a soul without extorting it from the offering person.
”Who sent you?” this… had to be trap, right? Maybe there was some kind of poison on it or he was planning something else. Whatever, she had survived this bonehead, she had survived the ice woman… now… was he one of those disgusting interbreeds? Or just a normal human? She didn’t accept this weapon. After all, she had her own. Speaking of that, for a short moment she grabbed the hilt of her weapon underneath her sweater, slowly drawing the real knife for a very short moment.
Whoever he was, he could take a short glimpse at her soul. Instead of red it was pitch black, only a red frame reminded it that it was a determination soul.
”Was it bonehead?”

Xander smiled as the girl brandished her own weapon. It was also a formidable blade like his own. Seemed like the style was catching like wild fire. It was odd to see another soul, but he had experimented with his own so much he had no qualms with a little show and tell.
"Have you too given into the HATE? I see you also have the red soul... you don't act like me though." He gave her a view of his own soul. It was very similar in look to hers, but his was upside down and instead of a border of red his simply had a red glow about it to remind of a determination soul. He scoffed at the assumption that he was "Sent" by someone to dispatch of her. For all he knew so far he had no outward issues with her up to this point. It seemed like more a misunderstanding than anything going on here. "I wasn't sent by anyone... are... is someone after you?" The way he acted towards her was as if she wasn't even a threat. "I go my own way. You seem to follow by the same rules of life. That being said... I'm quite the bored individual. A reverse Red Soul will do that to you."
Xander sighed. Why couldn't he be better at this?. "Listen... I would love to tussle along with you, but it seems like you have had your fair share of it yourself. So I'll give you one last chance to change your mind. I haven't much to offer you, but I could get you someplace that maybe you won't have to worry about this "Bonehead"... maybe a pizza... and offer you a shower, because no offence, but it seems like you've been out here for a while on your own." He flipped the hilt of his blade back into his hand.

”Is that an acronym?”
The way he said “HATE”… what was up with that? Or rather, with his soul… it was different compared to a normal determination soul… not to mention, the way he reacted towards her. No fear, no anger, just… boredom? It’s basically like she met herself… but could she trust this guy?
”You wouldn’t want to tussle with me…” in every sense of the word. May it be from loving tussling to hateful tussling, he wouldn’t want that… yet, his offer sounded great… putting all pieces together… maybe he was somebody who could help her out. After all, fighting people with flashy powers would be easier if she had flashy powers of her own.
”Let me come with you. I’d like to learn more about this HATE and accept your offer.”

Xander sized her up... after a moment he nodded and lowered his guard. "I've seen things. Things that the human/monster alliance doesn't want people to know. You see everyone knows about LOVE. LV as they called it. Level of violence." He flipped his knife in his hands as he told her the bit he got from his sources. "But what happens to the receiver of LOVE? And is LOVE just something you physically do to another person? That's only half of the story... HATE is the other half. HT... Harm Taken. HATE is the product of LOVE."
He moved over to her and let his soul be shown once again. He led it with his hand closer to her. "Your soul is full of fire... full of determination. It basically defines you. It's what makes you... be in so many words. Mine is ice cold. A reverse soul is devoid of what is in it's nature. When HATE consumes a human soul it becomes a reverse soul. I am everything you are not. I am apathy..."
He closed his fist over his soul and it returned to his body. "Walk with me... I will bring you somewhere safe." He moved at a leisure pace so she could keep up and so he could continue his explanation. "You mention how I'd not care to tussle with you. That's hard to do when your immediate reaction to everything is indifference. I live to fight. I live for LOVE. A reverse soul needs it to exist." He looked to her. "You have had your fair share of it yourself... Don't worry. Not many people could tell, I just... kinda have an affinity for HATE. Perhaps this "Bonehead" is the cause, but I don't just go out of my way for anybody. I am looking for others like me... Like us I suppose."
He sighed. "That royal scientist may already even have some of them. I fear that if another human/monster war should break out they would try to weaponize HATE. I won't allow them to use it under any banner. Not for monster or human-kind." He looked at her once again. making sure she is keeping up with what he was going on about thus far. "Before we continue... I need to know one thing... well two things. Are you willing to accept LOVE to be able to use HATE? People often find it mad to allow themselves harm, but if you are really wanting to be able to manipulate your HATE you have to be able to take LOVE... it has to become almost kin to you."
He moved along a broken fence and propped it open for her to move through as it began to look more residential as time passed. "The other thing I want to know is if you are willing to trust me. I know that's a hard thing to ask someone you just met, but if I am going to bring you into this world... I need to know that you are willing to give me that much. I know I got this face that screams otherwise, but when I commit to someone... I give it my all." He led her to an absolutely average looking house and presented it to her. "Well like I said, it's not much, but no one gives a damn about this precinct. It is absolutely as boring as it looks around here. No one would even think to look for you here."

Oh, LOVE. Chara had gained a lot and also had a lot of it to give. Wait, not. She had a lot of it to gain. When he went into explaining, she tried to keep two things in her mind to ask him for later.
From what Chara gathered, HATE would make her feel nothing at all. Wasn’t that what she wanted to have for so long? Feeling nothing whatsoever? Even when she had fought this ice woman and bonehead, she had felt something like glee. It was faint but it was still there so it was a problem.
Her face remained emotionless except for these red eyes. Those were on fire… literally.
When they were on their way, she almost didn’t trust her ears when he said ‘us’… well, destroying human kind would be easier as a team… and when they were done with that… this would have time for later.
Given what he said, he was probably hating monsters and humans alike… then he asked questions:
”Before I answer, how about you tell me your name?” hey, they were going to do business so that should be common curtesy:
”My name’s Chara.” she didn’t mention her last name. After all, what if he was on bad terms with the royal family?
”If it helps me gain more LOVE to destroy my enemies, I am willing to accept.” his question about trust was a bit difficult though. Should she really do this? Given that she was all alone and given that she had nothing to lose… and the fact that she could take a shower, get something to eat, maybe a new sweater…
”How about I take a shower and then we go into detail about HATE?” hey, whatever he was going to do probably required some ceremony where she had to be clean, right?

This was a definite first. She wanted to know his name, eh? Usually when he meets people all they demand of him is service. Well if it helps her along. "Xander... you could call me Xand, I guess." He brought Chara to the door and produced keys. "Eager to start, huh? Well I guess I can't blame you. It's quite fascinating once you actually tap into it. Once we settle in you do what you must and I'll order some food. We will definitely need a conversation piece to finish this." As they walked in they certainly were met up with a decent topic. The passed out, half naked, older woman on the couch surrounded by bottles of alcohol. Empty bottles more specifically.
Xander took a moment to look and paused Chara's advance. He removed his shirt and draped it over the highly unconscious slag of a person. "I'm sorry you had to see that..." He groaned. "She usually at least makes it to the damn bedroom before she gets completely gone to the world." Removal of his shirt also revealed a gruesome pattern of scars, some yet to be healed. Though some are battle wounds, some were obviously self inflicted. "Try to forget her... she's not part of this and never will be. I just take care of her... I guess."
He showed her the way to the bathroom and such. "I suppose it is fortunate you are of a more petite stature, I may actually have a solution for your ragged clothing problem too. I guess if you don't mind pre-owned. It's not like SHE needs them anymore." The woman on the couch was obviously not Chara's size so it must have been someone else Xander was referencing. Either way it seemed he had nothing, but vitriol to offer the people who were around him at this place. "Don't take too long, if you could help it. There is a lot to prepare for, Chara."
They first moved to what looked like a teen aged girl's room, but nothing had been touched there for what looked like years. He opened the closet and there was an over abundance of clothing of many varieties. All around them both were gifts of every type. Plush toys, electronics, glittery jewelry. This girl was pampered beyond belief. If Chara would look into Xander's eyes she would see nothing but blankness. This room, this girl that once inhabited it, was everything contrast to what Xander was. On the dresser near the closet was a picture. One of a girl, the woman that was passed out on the couch, an older man who had similar looks to Xander and a small baby. "Pick whichever combination you'd like... I'll be in the dining room when you are finished up, okay?" With that Xander left her to do her business.

Xander… what a neat name. Also, food sounded good.
The demon girl didn’t show any emotion when she saw this drunk woman.
”Who is she?” a good question, right? Did he need her around to serve him? If so, why was she allowed to drink?
Then again, he said to forget about her. Well, if he insisted…
So she followed him and this room… it had everything a girl could ask for. And those outfits… oh, she would definitely choose something to her liking… like the dark brown jeans and the black sweater with the red stripes.
”I’ll hurry.” and with that she was off to the bath room to shower, dry her hair and put on her new clothes before going back to the living room.

Xander was sitting patiently at the table as she arrived and offered her a seat across from him. "So... let us begin." He put his knife on the table... then moments later produced a second one that was identical to the first next to it. "Why don't you take out yours too because this first part is interactive and essential to everything, Chara." When she complied he cleared his throat. "LV is not just a gauge of the amount of physical violence a person does to distance themselves from others. If it were it would be so much simpler. Because that's not why you are here... I know it's not. Like others... like me we have experienced a bit more. LV is every kid that picked on you during school. LV is every time your parents called you worthless or worse. LV is every grown up that used their authority to beat you into compliance. LV is harm not only to the body, but to the very soul." He sighed. "I don't know you... but I know why you seek this out. It's the same reason why all of us do." His eyes darkened and he smirked. "Because we took a lot of LV and we want a way to pay it forward... enter HT."
He leaned forward a bit. "This is why I want to help you, Chara... because you should get that chance. Because they deserve some of that LOVE back." He returned to his original place in his chair. "I won't ask you of your circumstances, but if you ever need to tell someone about it... you're in good company here. For now I'll just assume it's not mine to know, but just know I'm willing." He shrugged. "Anyways, I don't know what depths you are going to take this, but as long as you like you could learn from me. I'll give you some sanctuary from that mess out there. I'll do what I can to get you where you need to go... because you deserve it."
He lifted his knife. "Have you ever heard of the "Knife Game", Chara?" Xander plunged the knife into the table top. "It was started by some pretty bored kids on the internet." He spread his other hand's fingers out and grabbed the knife. He then proceeded to stab the knife down between each pair of fingers back to where the knife started and back to the next, repeating. "This is where it all begins, Chara." As he continued to speak to her his pace continued to quicken. "Fear isn't an option, but we are beyond that. This is control of our HT. As long as we focus we could live without it as long as we choose." He went faster and faster, still flawless, still untouched by the blade. "The only way to lose the game is to stop before you reach the end of your desired time limit. My decided time is the end of explaining this to you." Still he continued stabbing, still he continued to miss flesh and bone. "You seem bored, but now comes the fun part, Chara. Now it's your turn to play. Just pick a time... as long as it takes to count to thirty, to say the alphabet backwards, or to hum your favorite song. Go ahead, Chara." He continued to play his own game.

The demon girl sat down. When he got out the knives, she got out hers, too. It was the real knife. Red runes covered the blade. What would he think of it? Well, he nailed everything when he explained LV. Exactly what she had to endure in her past. But not anymore. Who knew where these bullies were now? Maybe she should pay them a visit.
Oh, his help was appreciated…
”I can’t remember much of my past… but humans drove me to…” she stopped, since after all, it was pretty obvious. It was also one of those rare occasions where you could hear some emotion in her voice.
”I thank you for the offer: If I can repay you…” she usually wasn’t down to it, but for this…
”Knife game?” that one was new for her. Fortunately he explained it to her. Wait, that was it? She grabbed the real knife:
”Oh… you want me to talk about what drove me to this?” she started with the game. First it was slow…
”I died in the underground and got buried. A human landed on my grave. At first I was so confused.” she pieced up the pace.
”That human started killing. First some unimportant critters… but eventually somebody I held dear once.” that blade moved almost as fast as his’ now.
”She killed everybody… and I started to realize the true meaning of ‘kill or be killed.’ What had made me weak all the time. Caring about them. Feeling for them.” she had done that before she fell down, and this stupid prophecy… well, she wouldn’t go too much into detail.
Her knife jumped even faster now, still her fingers were unharmed.
”I noticed that with every little piece of LV that human collected, I could control her a bit more. Eventually… I took her body for myself but was trapped since there was still this barrier.” in hindsight it was good that Flowey had destroyed Asgore’s soul. If not, who knows what it would have done to her. The effects when a monster absorbed a human soul should be known by now, but a human absorbing a boss monster soul? Since they were rare…
How long would she have to play this boring game? She was going as fast as she could but was still too precise to harm her hand.
”So I made a deal with her: Her soul for letting her reset and do something different. I erased her memory of me… and restored her when she had destroyed the barrier. I took her soul and came back… but it seems time moved on.” with that she stopped this game.

Xander shrugged. It was odd to hear the girl so insistent on giving him something in return... Was this the first time anyone has ever been nice to her or something? Xander never thought about it as being kind. He was helping her as he wished anyone in his life helped him. He wouldn't dare let her have to deal with the same life he had to. "I'm not asking for you to do anything in repayment... the only thing I'll keep you too is that if anyone else asks you of HATE that you keep mum about it. I don't want other people to be spreading around rumors to the wrong people about the power I have and who I share it with. We will both be better off in the long run if we keep these sessions to ourselves."
Xander listened with great attention to her story about the underground. He knew of the rumor well. It was the same rumor that his big sister heard. The one that drove her to run away and send the actions in motion that would bring him to this moment with Chara. Things began to make more sense, little by little. Without reason or warning he drove the knife too close to the space between his index and ring fingers and a bit of blood seeped from the wound and onto the table. "whoops" he said, but with no outward appearance of registering pain. He just continued to play his game as she continued to explain how she got here. Something about possession?... that was a first. Xander was no expert in the paranormal, but she looked real to him. If anything she looked like his kind of person. One he was actually excited to be getting to know. "I know all about losing some close people beyond my control. As we sit here I watch my mother kill herself with grief daily. She has already died in her mind, but her body is just taking longer to figure that out. I should probably be doing something about it, but... I just don't. If she wants to drown herself in booze and it brings her peace, then I would only be adding onto her suffering by denying her the opportunity." Once again the knife slipped up, and once again the strike of the knife grazed a finger and the blood on the table grew ever so slightly. "Freewill is absolute to me, Chara. What is freedom, but the ability to choose our every path without entertaining the fear of opposition?"
As Chara's story delved darker as did Xander's understanding of her circumstances, the look in his eyes, and his grin. "Funny, they always said that those who fall into the underground are never heard from again, yet here you are, Chara. I have a feeling you will fit right in, here." Did she exodus with the rest of monster-kind? Who was this other kid she possessed? "It is interesting you should mention weaknesses like that, Chara. I could teach you how to take those moments and convert them into power as well... but first thing is first, we are dealing with the physical now, speaking of that you're doing a fine job with the game. You haven't chosen to hit yourself once." What did he mean by that? He continued to slam his knife about... chop, chop. chop.
"Chara..." He stuck the knife once again in his hand's flesh, then went back to playing the game flawlessly. "This is what HATE is all about. It's about choosing to embrace LOVE when it is opportune. You played the game perfectly as what anyone else would think to. Get to the end unharmed. I'm sure that is how "Kill or be Killed" works, but let me bring you to the surface world and a new philosophy to live by..." he extended the blade from the both of them he concentrated on his bloodied hand and his black soul revealed. A surge of black energy converted from his soul, through his arm and to his blade which manifested into a sword of black energy. "The more HATE you have, the more LOVE you've got to give."
He looked to her to assure her understanding. Then he returned his knife to normal and took the blade against his palm. "Follow my lead, Chara. This is going to take something you haven't done in a while. When you draw your knife across your hand I want you to seek out that pain. I want you to focus on it and imagine it flowing from your hand into your soul. Then Chara I want you to take that HT from your soul and draw it into your knife just like I did just now. Now I have no idea how your HT will manifest itself through your knife. We'll find out really quick and it's the best part. We're about to see for the very first time what a second Determination soul can do with HT energy." He said all of this with absolute confidence in her. "I'm right here with you, doing the exact same thing. So don't worry... you're not alone." He offered her a smirk. "All that matters is that you win the game, Chara. That is the meaning of HT"

That was all? Keeping silent about this HATE? As if she would share the power she gained here with anybody…
So he slipped with his knife… hey, at least he wasn’t crying. Even when she heard the story of his mother, she didn’t hear any kind of sadness in it. What was her real mother doing?
Somehow she didn’t care. She would destroy all of humanity, so she would get her one day.
”So… you chose to harm yourself?” and explanation incoming. So that was all? The demon girl was used to pain so this wouldn’t be too difficult for her. Following his lead, she grabbed her knife and did how he did, however the cuts were a bit deeper than his cuts.
Oh, she would win his stupid game…
”…” at the first she had flinched, then she slowly started to feel less pain.

as Xander meant to feel for that woman? That concept was almost alien to him. In Xander's eyes you get what you give to others. All that woman ever gave him was grief and abandonment... If her name wasn't on the deed to the house he'd probably have left long ago, but then maybe he would be in the same boat as Chara. He valued the roof over his head and the peace and comfort not to have to deal with others. And his job at the cafe. A simple way to get information. You wouldn't believe how much people will say while having their morning cup of coffee and a scone.
He noticed the look of determination of Chara's face. Chara winning this game was also a fine victory for Xander. He wanted her to awaken. Just something about her made him want her to succeed. Under other circumstances they could have even been at opposite ends of the table. Would she ever do the same for him? That could be why Chara has had it so well with Xander. His apathy makes it so he would probably give the world to her and want nothing in return. As we all know, it is when good people do nothing that allow evil to run rampant in the world. Funny thing was that Xander saw nothing in what Chara told him as bad. He had nothing, but understanding for the demon child.
Xander nodded as she asked him if he hurts himself. "Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. Think of LV as a battery for your HT. As you receive pain through violence and focus it into your soul it builds up like a charge. It doesn't matter who does it to you... just that it happens in some way at some time. You should start feeling it transfer now, Chara." He exposed his soul to demonstrate. As he focused on his hand once again she could see the black energy travel through his palm and arm like static electricity and flow into his soul. "Then comes the joy of letting people think they are winning when all they are really doing is just giving you power to pay them back in spades with... the look on some of their faces..." He laughed some. "Nothing crushes an ego quite like when you first flash your power at them after they thought they were doing so well." He smirked. "But I doubt from what you've told me that you'll have any problem playing with heads. It's one of life's little bonuses really."
Xander stood up and moved to her side. "Alright, Chara. This is the big moment. I want you to take that HT and put it into your knife. Feel the blade surging with your HT. Once there you will sense a part of it that you never noticed. It will become even more a part of you than it ever has before. You are giving it part of your own essence." He went into a mode of remembrance to his own awakening to HT. "It may feel odd at first, but don't fight a thing, just do whatever you feel most natural. This HT power is yours and no one else's, that's the beauty in it."
