Strengths/Abilities
♥
Great Swimmer! Can breathe under water because he is a fish monster.
♥
Sound! Like the sirens of legend, Fluke is able to use his voice and other sounds to manipulate most animals and even some humans/monster. He can also mimic the sound of nearly anything, including other peoples’ voices. On top of that, he’s a darn good singer.
♥
Experience! Fluke got a head start to human culture having been raised as one. He is a good middle ground between humans and monsters and is able to make friends with both easily.
Inabilities/Weaknesses
♥
Asthma! Being half fish, his lungs are functional on land, but optimal in water. Running long distances or other strenuous activities (especially in the cold) leave him winded. He is working to build up his endurance, but still struggles.
♥
Ignorance! Fluke was raised by humans and knows very little about his own culture, including his abilities and disabilities.
♥
Tail! While great in water, a monster who spent so much time on land didn't have much use for such a big tail. So it gets in the way an awful lot. It's all full of blubber and just cumbersome.
♥
Cold Blooded! Not in the colloquial sense. He's literally incapable of automatically regulating his own body temperature. He's got to bundle up quite a lot in the cold or he'll fall asleep.
Personality
Fluke is very charming with a good sense of humor. He has a generally optimistic outlook and an incredible work ethic. He struggles with jealousy and self-doubt, but is fiercely loyal to those he cares about. He has a hero complex, always fantasizing the life of a knight or superhero.
Life Story
When you're trying to banish all monsters on Earth underground, it can be a little tough. Especially when you get down to the sea creatures. They're fast and know where all the dark corners are. Plus they live in %75 of the Earth that you don't have access to. Despite best efforts, a pod of sea monsters were able to go into hiding. Proudly, these surface monsters thrived in the ocean, careful to hide away from human eyes. Well, most of them were. Curious about the surface culture, a pair of sea monsters took their newborn son to see the coast. This would go down in their pod as a terrible idea. One strict coast guard and bad storm later, their son was lost.
The next morning, he washed up on shore. He was found by his now adoptive parents, who took him in and raised him as their son. As a child, Lucas immersed himself in nerd culture, living out the adventures he'd always wanted to have through things like Star Wars, Zelda, and Harry Potter. With purple skin and a long fluked fish tail, he could only view the surface while hidden, or via National Geographic, or the very limited internet of the late 90s.
As a teenager, he and his family decided to remedy this by traveling the world as a Circus with Lucas as the show’s star. This way, he could meet people and make friends everywhere he went without having to hide who he was. This was where he acquired the nickname “Fluke”, combining the tail of a whale with the name Luke. The name stuck and Fluke the Fish Boy became one of the biggest in the circus industry.
When the barrier broke, the world lost interest in their little circus and it eventually disbanded. Now that the world was ready for him, he took a job at a nearby waterpark. He passed the swimming test easily.
Sample Roleplay
San Fransisco didn't have too many super cold days, but when they did happen, Fluke preferred to stay indoors. There was just so much of him to cover up. You try finding snow boots for legs like his! He supposed he had to consider himself lucky. Many monsters didn't even have a humanoid form (
Jerry) and at least he could shop at most human stores with few alterations. Work was closed on a day like this anyway. This was a day for wasting time on the internet or playing the Sims (Deborah had one promotion to go before reaching the top of the Astronaut career)
He happened to glance at his phone as a text message was coming in. It was Candy from work.
"Froyo?" Was all it said. That was all it took to get the fish out of his nest of blankets. Though cold for the area, it wasn't quite chilly enough to harm him. Still, he began the bundling process. Two pairs of leggings, a wide pair of mukluks he modified to fit his big webbed feet, a sweatshirt, winter coat, a scarf, and a weird spandex cover he'd designed to cover his tail snugly were all it took to prepare him for 50° F.
