The sharp crack of thunder called for rain as the glow of the street lamps sent shadows twisting down the dark and narrow alleyways. It was this world that Winter had grown accustomed to, the part that few people ever saw and it was this world that the shadows of the men in their dark coats now moved towards the winding corridors that surrounded the docks. The plan was a simple one - her men would give Chara the impression that she was being followed and use her instinct to escape to drive her into a predetermined location, where she would run into Winter. Fear and paranoia were powerful tools in warfare, so they need not engage the kid to achieve their goals, merely herd them into a location that would be the most beneficial to avoid any witnesses and would play to the strategic advantages. Slowly, all the chess pieces were falling into place. "Are you sure about this?" A concerned and heavily accented voice asked over the com in her ear, the thick Irish tones easing her nerves as Winter lingered in the shadows. The men taking part were all old associates of her father, all humans with a checkered and blood past. They were criminals and men that had on more than one occasion risked their lives, long before monsters had come to the surface, to protect her family out of loyalty to a man that had once been their comrade-in-arms. Nevertheless, even they seemed to sense that there was something wrong with this situation, though they were experienced enough not to ask to many questions. Winter had always been a gentle thing and after her father's death, she'd gone straight and been loathed to ask any of them for favors, be it money or otherwise. Sure, there was a part of her that didn't want to remain a burden on them, but the other had sought to distance herself from the lifestyle that had stolen her father away from her. Even so, there was no other choice. She knew that this favor would not come cheap in the end and she would have to pay them back eventually, as her father's influence in the underworld and the organization had waned over the past decade after his death, but this was hardly the kind of business that one could trust a cop to or some lawyer to assist in. "I'm sure. Just be sure to cut the camera feed once they reach the docks. Chances are, we can blame the storm, if anyone raises a fuss. If anything happens..." Winter began, but there was a definite pause before a sigh escaped her in resolve. "Well, you know what to do." She finally finished, leaning back against the wall. Winter knew that Sans would be there to stop the kid if she failed, and half a dozen armed Irish mafia to boot, which was some comfort, though it made the task at hand no easier to come to terms with. A part of her continued to scream that there had to be some better way, some other way than burying herself or a child tonight. However, she could no longer afford to gamble on possible second chances. There was far to much at stake and to many families at risk to just let this slide. No, if someone had to bare the burden and take the risk, better her than her friends. It wouldn't be long now. A flicker of lightning cut across the cloudy and starless night sky, causing Winter to draw her hood up to blend in more with the shadows of the alleyway. Still, there was a part of her that silently prayed that there was still some hope or light of redemption that lingered in the child's darkened soul, for their own sake. If she was wrong, if the kid showed their true nature and attacked, then she would have no other choice except to fight and there would be no escape, no second chances, even if they managed to kill her. Humans. Words couldn’t even describe Chara’s hatred. If it had been humans instead of monsters inhabiting the underground, she would have never allowed Frisk to leave to take over her body. Oh no, she would have killed the humans… over… and over… and over… and over… her rage towards humanity was unsated… what they had done to her… what they had made her do…
And even now the murderer felt that she was stalked by somebody… while walking around, she contemplated… when was she in a situation where self-defense was justified? Just having the feeling of being stalked wasn’t enough, there had to be more. And even then, murdering somebody JUST BECAUSE they had attacked her? Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough… while she was wearing warm clothes, she felt the coolness… not to mention the rain. How good she had gotten an umbrella or else she would have been soaked.
Strangely enough these people… the more she started to get out of their way by turning around and walking different directions, they seemed to lead her somewhere… and she allowed it. Maybe there was somebody who hated humans as much as she did. The gears in her head were spinning as she wondered about this. Who could it be? Whatever amazing scenario she was imagining, reality was just boring when she finally met a familiar person… that woman that had used those ice daggers and who gave her Undyne vibes.
Wasn’t she working for the police? In that case she would just play innocent girl and see what happened. ”Hello.” was her only word as she had stopped in her tracks. Hey, as long as she didn’t do anything bad, nothing would happen. Unless she wanted her to die… but hey, a police woman… definitely not. They were chained down by ‘emotions’, by ‘honor’ and other useless sentiments.
Chara was here… and her red eyes were looking in your blue eyes, not giving a hint of what the murderer was feeling. If you thought it was checkmate… no, it was endgame.

Winter kept quiet as the kid approached, their steps slow and far to at ease for Winter's liking, despite the fact that the rain had started to fall and giving her a certain advantage when it came to terrain. Oh well, the plan didn't exactly hinge on the element of surprise. "I was hoping you would show. I wanted to talk to you. Do you remember me?" She questioned, before hesitating as a smirk curled onto her lips in amusement at her own foolishness. The kid could see through her fake politeness in a heartbeat, so there was no point in skirting around the truth. "Heh. Who am I kidding? Of course you do. It's not every day that you con someone into being a shield or maybe for you, it is?" Winter shot coldly, her tone unable to hide the faint ring of spite that stirred at the prospect of being tricked, by a brat no less. "So, let's just drop the act, shall we? I already know who you are and I know what you've done. Sans gave me the run down after you tipped your hand. You know, you should really learn to play with your cards closer to your chest, because if you hadn't made that mistake, I would still be playing the fool right now and risking my life to protect you." A soft chill seemed to curl into the air as the smirk returned to her features, the annoyance vanishing with a shrug. "Anyway, I wanted to talk. Honestly, figured you would run if I just approached you on the street, so privacy is the next best thing." She explained calmly with a smile, all to aware that it sounded like an odd request, but hoping the brat would humor her a bit. Although, given the creepy vibe that the kid's crimson eyes were throwing off, it was hard to fight her own instincts not to act first and ask questions later. "So, what's your angle? Why you doing this, kid? Even the worst psycho has his reasons, right?" Winter questioned curiously, her gaze difficult to read under the shadow of the hoodie, but no doubt fixed on her subject and keeping loose, just in case Chara decided to pull that knife that she was carrying around. Did she look like she was too much at ease? Yes, it was. On purpose? Maybe. After all, as long as she didn’t do anything bad, the police couldn’t lay a hand on her, right? It was this weak emotions that held this woman back. She didn’t know how it was to act free of any kind of conscience.
”You stopped that mad skeleton from murdering me.” her voice was normal, with a small hint of gratitude. ”Thank you.” she wouldn’t bring up the part with the knives.
Suddenly this woman’s tone changed. As expected. Dropping her act? Please… How could you be so blunt? Oh right… this woman didn’t live with a royal family And what kind of mistake would that be? Running away from… her? ”I was scared by that skeleton. And by you.” for good reason.
Chara just eyed her. ”Can we go somewhere more comfortable?” like not outside while it was raining. Since this woman had just lured her here because she badly wanted to have a talk, she should accommodate her. Like a comfy chair, a nice table and some hot cocoa. What did Winter expect from the poor innocent psychopath? That she was actually telling her the truth? While the police woman was backed up by probably dozens of people? She had seen the power of Aesop for herself and figured there would have to be more of his kind… Which made killing people all the more difficult… At one point she would do it though. In the far recesses of her mind, she was picturing in what way she would spill the blood of this woman. Red was a nice color that would suit her well… if her blood was red…
So what would it be?

Not surprisingly, Chara feigned innocence until the act was dropped and then proceeded to change her story, once more claiming fear, a notion that caused her smile to widen a bit in amusement. There were many emotions that someone like Winter could elicit from someone, but fear was rarely one of them. However, the more the child spoke, the easier it was to see the lie that she was failing so desperately to weave. "You would go alone, to a secluded location, with a person you fear?" Winter questioned mockingly, as it seemed Chara could not decide how she felt about the woman. "I went to a lot of trouble so we could talk. I even took into account the weather. I'm terribly fond of the rain, you see. It's so... underappreciated by humans. After all, water is the basis for life, it renews and it washes away everything." Winter informed calmly, removing a hand from her pocket to demonstrate the droplets that now froze across her fingertips and twisted into the shape of a blade that she now twirled between her fingers, like a common playing card to kill her boredom. There was a odd maliciousness to the words, a darker meaning, like she was admiring some twisted beauty that most would have missed as the rain erased any evidence of what was about to play out. "We have a lot in common, you know? We're both human to a certain extent, and curiosity has always been a fatal weakness of mine, so I wonder if you can actually do it?... The odds are several billion to one, with hundreds born every minute, so be honest with me, do you really think that you can murder them all by yourself? Greater men than you have tried, only to die, their determination and ambition falling short to purge humanity. So, what makes you think that you're story will end any differently?" She challenged with a smirk, a hint of intrigue lingering in her words that bordered on fascination, which probably sounded even stranger from what Chara assumed was a cop. It was a shockingly honest question, however, as Winter sought to discover what made this kid any different from your average footnote in a history book. Centuries of tyrants, warlords, and evil men, and she was suppose to believe that this brat could best them all with a single knife, no funds, and no connections? It was laughable and she was starting to think that Sans had inflated the stories a little. Maybe they were a threat on a personal level to individual monsters or the unwitting human, but a delusion was nothing more than ego blinded by the lies one told themselves to sleep at night. Perhaps, she had wasted time in thinking this kid was somehow unique? MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

That wasn’t a contradiction, that was easily solvable with logic. ”Do I have any choice after your hired muscle forced me here? Besides, didn’t you say you were a cop?” it was a shot in a kind of random direction, but highly likely. ”Also, I said something more comfortable. That could basically be anywhere else but here.”
”If you pay me a warm and comfy room for the night, fine.” well, about the part with the water, there wasn’t much she could add. Drowning people could be fun, washing away the blood was also pretty useful…
So she listened some more. At first it sounded like Winter would basically share the same sentiments towards humans like her. But it soon fell flat. So she doubted that Chara, the harbinger of doom, could actually do it? ”What do you mean with ‘human to a certain extent’? Does that mean that you got those powers…” well, Chara’s hair stood on end for a short moment when she imagined in her inner eye that a human and a monster had… for a very short moment her entire body shivered.
Chara shook her head to get her focus back. Then she crossed her arms, it looked like she was hugging the handle of the umbrella: ”So let me get this straight: you hired some muscle to lure me here. It’s not like I had any choice the way they were blocking my way. So you accuse me, a human with no flashy powers like throwing ice daggers or throwing fireballs of trying to kill people.” she had put the umbrella in her left hand and put her right on her forehead: ”And you do this because a skeleton that can summon giant blasters and tried to kill me told you I was bad news?” no wonder why she hated humans. Had Sans inflated the story of the merciless killer? No he hadn’t. Chara would bring death to humanity. Before she could do THAT though, she would lay low and wait for her opportunity. ”You are a cop? Sounds more like a vigilante to me.” For now she would either make this police woman to let her go or… she would have a reason for justified self-defense.

Winter listened as Chara continued to insist on moving somewhere more comfortable, as if the detective couldn't see through that rouse in a New York minute. It was basic strategy, but she had no intention of allowing the child to control the battlefield again. They were settling this here, even if she had to frustrate and poke holes in every lie the kid told until she squeezed out the truth. "Never said I was a cop. Said I was a detective, but that misconception didn't stop you from trying to run the first time." Winter shot back, her words ringing with a certain vindictiveness as it seemed to dawn on Chara that the woman she was speaking to was not your typical human. Had she put it together? That there was something other than monsters and humans in this world? Someone that could be neither and both? The concept seemed to give the child a sudden chill or maybe it was the slowly dropping temperatures. Who could really say, but Chara seemed to quickly regain her train of thought and was speaking again, this time attempting to wrap her mind around the situation presented to her as her fingers had coiled defensively around the umbrella. "Kid, I've been called a lot worse than vigilante over the years." She explained calmly, still rolling the blade around, though her expression had fallen somewhat as the memories of her childhood drifted back. Freak. Demon. Abomination. Monsters might have been accepting over the whole mixed blood issue, but humans.... humans were cruel. Even now, there were still some that would have cursed her existence and sought to erase her, so it wasn't like Winter was clueless when it came to the Chara's hatred for humans in certain circumstances. "As for Sans, while there's a lot that I don't know about him, there's one thing I know for certain, he's not a liar. I've seen the compassion he has for others and I know there are those he cares about enough to throw away everything to protect." Her tone hardened once more, recalling how many times over the past few days Sans had been at her side and maybe in the end, that was Chara's real mistake. Not running away or turning on Winter back in the park, but in allowing that pun-loving skeleton to somehow prove himself to the detective with his actions until, before she had even realized it, she was viewing him less a suspect and more as a friend. "So, here's how this is going to play out. You're going to lay down your weapon and we're going to have a long honest talk, and if I'm not convinced by the end of it that you've seen the light and intend give up this ridiculous endeavor, I'm going to make this look like an accident. Understand?" Winter warned coldly, the blade's movement in her hand halting as her gaze settled on the kid. "I don't want to do this... but I can't allow you to hurt innocent people, so if you intend to continue, if you try to hurt my friends, you'll have to go through me first." She confessed solemnly, the threat all to clear as a cold mist rolled out from beneath that hood and the ungodly chill lingering in the damp air around them, a hint of the power that she would unleash if Chara did not take her threats seriously. ”Oh, you misunderstand me. Again.” slowly but steadily, Chara was getting impatient. This could only end in one of two ways and the murderer knew it perfectly. As she expected, words would be meaningless since regardless what she said, Winter would twist it in a way that would make her look like the bad guy. Or… bad girl. Which she was. Still…
Oh, would you look at Chara. She was still standing there, not flinching at all. Only those red eyes were shifting around as she was planning her escape. So they were at the docks. This woman had ice powers. It was way too cold to jump into the water due to her ice powers. She could just freeze her and… no, Chara didn’t intend to die so easily. There was rain so parts of her clothes were soaked. The wind was howling from different sides… all these planning made her hear Winter’s voice kind of muffled. What was that? Sans and how good he is. Well, he was good. Good at being an obstacle and even better when that ketchup spilled out of him.
Please. From this woman’s general attitude towards her, the murderer girl already knew that she wouldn’t be able to convince her at all. So… she would make it look like an accident? How cute… but unfortunately the murderer had no choice. This woman had ice powers and they were in an area with water, it was raining… and the hired muscle was probably around and would testify for her… it was hopeless for her to escape… unless… she felt the wind behind her back starting to get strong again… ”I don’t see why not. If you put it that way I wi…” she let the opened umbrella go so that it would be blown right at Winter’s chest and face. At the same time, Chara turned around and ran as fast as she could, away from the docks and to the alleyways. As soon as she found a crowd with people or somebody from the police, she would be safe. But that might take her a while. Besides, she was expecting Winter’s hired muscle. They better didn’t dare to intercept her… unless they wanted her to use her knife. As much as it pained her, should she be stopped, she would aim for non-lethal points of the body. After all, she couldn’t afford killing people.

The kid showed little to no reaction at all to the verbal threats, which wasn't exactly surprising, though Winter wasn't sure what she had expected truthfully. She'd already put together that this was a child in appearance only from Sans stories. Perhaps, even now, there was a part of her that was still looking for some sign that she was wrong about all this, that Sans was wrong, that there was some vain hope that a shred of humanity lingered in Chara, even if it was only the instinct to survive, even if it meant breaking down or begging for her side of the story to be heard. Instead, all Winter got was the same reaction she'd seen from countless other manipulative and guilty criminals. Removing her left hand from her pocket as she side-stepped with her right foot, Winter swatted the umbrella away to the side. As Winter did so, the water around her boot froze and tendrils of ice began to spread across the water-covered ground like bolts of lightning as they streaked down the alleyway towards the kid. Eventually, they passed their short strides, leaving the ground slippery and devoid of friction as the ice ahead of them rose from the ground, twisting and freezing into a solid wall that stood about seven foot high and about two inches thick that blocked the entrance to the alleyway that Chara had entered through. "I didn't go to all this trouble, so you could run away. I may not have a lot of firepower, but I learn pretty quick and the same trick you used on Sans, won't work a second time. We're fighting on my terms now." Winter explained coldly, raising her left hand to erect a similar wall to seal the escape directly behind her. If it wasn't obvious before, it should have been by now. This alleyway wasn't some random location, chosen merely to avoid eyewitnesses, it was to limit space to avoid overexerting the magic that might have been needed if she had chosen to fought in open terrain. The fact that there was only one way in and one way out, didn't hurt either, and with both now sealed, the hybrid was starting to demonstrate exactly why her kind were feared by humans. However, she'd spent enough time running over that scenario in the park to realize her own mistakes and comparing her own fighting style to Sans, as well as his method for confronting Chara. Elemental abilities were much more taxing the larger an area was and it was easy to spread oneself thing, with ice especially, so she couldn't afford to fight someone out in the open. At least, not in the big city, where the temperature rarely called for snow. Water was the next best that she could hope for and in this weather, so close to the docks, there would be no shortage of resource material at her disposal. "This is the part where you start talking or draw a weapon, because my patience has worn thin." She spoke frigidly with a growl, stepping across the thin layer of black ice that now covered the ground towards the child, her hands falling to her sides as the droplets around her solidified into about a dozen or so blades. Rolling the knife from before around in her right hand, her left extended to catch a second from the air to arm herself for close quarters, as the remaining knives hovered over her shoulder and were poised to be launched at the kid with the flick of a wrist. What kind of idiot did Winter think Chara was? Well, she almost smacked against an ice wall. Oh right, that's what she had done to interrupt Sans and her. At first glance, that ice was too thick to be cut open. Oh how the demon girl wished to have some fire magic now... it would have come in so handy here... but NO, she hadn't.
The demon girl turned around to look at Winter and there was one clear emotion in her red eyes: Disbelief.
As much as Chara didn't care for Winter's words, she had to admit one thing: The way how she let those ice daggers hover around her looked quite... cool. Wait, was that a pun right now?
She wanted her to talk? Fine. Her red eyes gazed at Winter's eyes: "You aren't going to let me go anyway regardless what I'm saying." she absorbed this entire situation. How the knives would probably fly... where Winter would be. Then she laughed but it wasn't a light-hearted laugh, it was more like one to shake off some heavy emotions. Not that Chara was having those but it's what she had been done in the past when confronted with bad situations. She lifted her hands a bit so Winter could see the palms: "I haven't done anything bad. I get attacked, I have to explain myself and regardless what I say, it's used against me. Isn't that funny?" She opened her arms kind of like trying to hug somebody, smiling: "So, what are you going to do? Kill me?" Chara hadn't drawn her weapon. In fact it wasn't even visible thanks to that sweater. So what would you do, Winter? Attack? Trying to kill her? Believe it or not, Chara was ready to dodge whatever you would throw at her.

To her surprise, Winter remained unmoving and steady as Chara protested that regardless of what was said, it was impossible to let the kid go. She was right, however, but somewhere beneath the threats and the icy demeanor, Winter had held out hope. Like an idiot, she'd wanted to believe that everyone was capable of doing the right thing, that there was some way to avoid the dark task that now weighed heavily on her shoulders. Sadly, there was nothing that could guarantee that Chara wouldn't simply kill the moment she was free and either way, Winter would end up with blood on her hands for not acting. What she hadn't expected was for the brat to start laughing and the noise almost sent a chill down her spine. Winter gritted her teeth as a war raged in her chest, watching as the child refused to draw their weapon and held out her hands to show their dustless state, an act that only made the situation seem worse as she was attacking someone that appeared to be unarmed. "I just... wanted there to be another way, even if it was an illusion." She confessed softly, the mental torment now unbearable as a few drops of liquid slid down her cheeks and fell, freezing as they reached the ground. In that moment, her mind drifted back to the reason that she was doing all this and to the skeleton that now waited in the wings, just in case Winter didn't succeed. No, she couldn't back out now. If she didn't do this, Sans would be left with the burden of killing the kid himself and as a result would probably end up as dust, a possibility that Winter couldn't stand the thought of baring on her conscience. She had no choice, even if meant becoming something that she had spent her whole life trying to avoid. "....I'm sorry." Winter apologized solemnly, not expecting the anyone's forgiveness for what she was about to do. Rolling her left wrist, a few of the daggers shot through the air towards Chara, expecting the kid to dodge the initial attack, Winter was ready. Raising her right hand, a series of icy spikes shot up from the ground, intent on impaling anything above them as the daggers that had missed turned in the air and flew towards the kid's back. There was no way around it, so the only mercy that Winter could offer was to try to make it quick, so that the kid didn't suffer. If she hesitated now, it would only make the situation worse for both of them. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

An illusion?
The demon girl chuckled yet again, her lips moving for a moment, her eyes twitching as if she was about to cry. She didn’t notice the tears. There was too much water thanks to that rain but she noticed sadness.
What an idiot… Winter could have escaped unscathed. Now it boiled down to both of them fighting here… and as much as Chara would have given in to her urge to finally kill somebody, she just couldn’t do that. Justified self-defense didn’t allow it… the gears in her head were spinning like crazy. There had to be witnesses. Somewhere… oh wait! It was her statement against hers. All she needed was some proof that she had been attacked.
The ice wall could be gone by the time the police showed up… Chara brought her arms close to her body:
She paid close attention to those hands. She would probably try some dirty tricks like Sans… after all, hadn’t these two become such good friends?
When the daggers were flying, she shifted her body to the left just enough to trick Winter into triggering her next attack. Ice spikes… neat. At the exact same moment, a red knife was drawn out by Chara. The real knife. Runes covered the red blade. She instantly sped up and rushed at Winter, swinging the knife at an insane speed. Insane yet accurate since it wasn’t like it was a knife she had there, more like red slashes that blocked the ice daggers.
Too bad she wouldn’t kill this idiot… no, instead she aimed for Winter’s hands. After all, red probably suited her… and probably rendered her defenseless. Chara was fast and aimed for the palm of Winter’s right hand as she dashed past her. Had she landed a hit?

The odds that Chara would retaliate were high enough that Winter wasn't surprised when the kid pulled the knife from their sweater and used it to deflect the blades. Although, there was definitely something off about the blade that put the hybrid on edge as the kid turned her focus from defensive to offensive, making a dash across the ice covered payment towards her right hand. Fortunately, this wasn't Winter's first time in a fight and her right foot immediately dropped back behind her left, allowing her hand to drop behind her with the grace one would expect from a dancer as the left hand released the blade to aim at Chara's exposed shoulder with the fluidity of a viper's strike. Unfortunately, the kid's speed was no joke, even on this slippery terrain, and while the blade in her hand allowed her to brush off most of the blow, the edge of her sleeve showed a split that ran up to the elbow in an unsettling manner and warning against underestimating the brat. Guess wearing loose clothing was a good idea, after all. Any closer and Chara might have drawn blood, but the superficial slash was enough to see why Sans had been so adamant in his warnings about the kid's abilities. There was something very unnatural about Chara that was far to practiced, even for someone with experience in killing monsters. "Cute trick." She snorted in distaste, far more aware of the threat now that the detective had seen the kid move around up close. Winter supposed that there would be no point in pulling her punches and quickly extended her hand to catch another blade of ice from the air to rearm herself. Oh, fine. If it was a knife fight the kid wanted, then so be it. She could play that game, too. Winter just needed to control her breathing, conserve her movements and focus on reading the opponent's subtle signals. The kid was impressive, but if she allowed herself to be unnerved or lost her focus from a single attack, the battle would be over before it had even started and there was a lot more at stake than just her own life. "You really are a creepy kid." Winter remarked with a smirk, as something in her blood began to stir and her previous sympathies for the possible murder of a child seemed to die away with confirmation of Chara's skill. In any case, it didn't seem that she'd been aiming for her vitals, which would have been typical if the brat had wanted her dead. Instead, she'd gone for a limb, which was rather unusual. Was she trying to weaken her abilities in an attempt to escape? It was possible, especially if the kid believed that she would have to hide a body, which would have been difficult given the circumstances. Not that it changed Winter's objective, there were only two ways this would end and if she wanted to walk away from it, it was time that she let go of her sentimentality and get serious. Chara only stopped for a short moment. Side-eying her opponent, her red eyes shimmered with glee. While she wasn’t here to kill, it still felt so good to use her knife again.
She didn’t even lose breath by saying something. No, she needed all of her energy to deliver the pain. She leaped yet again towards Winter, this time aiming at her body. It looked like a stab but suddenly turned this stab into a slash at her left arm. Then she quickly sliced down, aiming at a leg.
As long as she disabled one of Winter’s arms or legs she would win…
While she did all this, she remained focused. Her slices were fast yet precise. Should you decide to fight back, Chara would dodge most of your attacks. However she would let herself hit at certain spots of her body that weren’t lethal. After all, Chara needed some kind of evidence when somebody arrived. Having wounds would help her out…

It seemed Chara wasn't wasting any time in continuing the assault and freezing the water that had soaked through the dense hooded jacket to protect herself against an upper body strike, Winter had barely any time to avoid the blade as it turned and steel clattered against ice and solid cloth that managed to protect her left arm. It didn't stop the strike completely, however, but it was enough to bare the brunt of the attack as Winter parried the knife with her own blade away. It was effective enough for a make-shift armor, but it's usefulness would be short-lived in a fight of this intensity and Winter had not hoped to play that trick so quickly, despite coming prepared for such a thing. Sadly, there wasn't enough time to do the same with the legs and despite attempting to beat a quick retreat, the sharp sting radiated up her right thigh as she stumbled back to put some distance between herself and Chara. The cut wasn't terribly deep, but the crimson stain that now seeped out and into the denim material was evidence enough of the wound. Winter used the new found space and urge to go the ground as an opportunity to unleash her own counter attack, as a series of three rows of icy shards shot up from the ground in an attempt to impale the child. No sooner had she done so, that the blades that had been waiting so patiently in the wings flew, taking aim at the Chara's legs and arms. While she could still walk, she didn't know for how long and Winter was all to aware that she needed to even the field by stopping the child's erratic movements. However, as an added bonus, a series of long, icy needles shot out from the wall behind Chara, hoping to catch the child by surprise as Winter's hands, at least at first glance, had not moved from the ground and didn't need to as the ice was hers to manipulate at will. By the time that Winter had regained her footing the daggers in her hands had lengthened, adding the frozen water into something similar to a pair of combat knives to better deal with their unusual weapon. This time, it was Winter that took the offensive, pushing forward once more with a slash, meant to take aim at the chest or arms. Going to knife-to-knife was a risky move against someone like Chara, but at this point, she had left her little choice. If she didn't start landing some hits, Winter would be stuck playing defense with an already bloody leg and there was no telling how long that she would be able to hold out fighting primarily with her elemental attacks.
