Despite everything... ...it's still YOU [attr="class","scroller"]Frisk clutched at the handle to her umbrella until her knuckles turned white. The wind was howling through the streets, drowning out the usual hustle and bustle of the city. Rain was beating down, nearly swallowing every surface in sight. It was a miserable day. Not every day could be a bright and happy one, she supposed. Still, did it have to be this bad? [break][break] When the brunette finally made it to the bus stop, she sighed from relief and ducked into cover from the rain. Inside the glass hut, the rain was deafening. It was better than getting soaked or blown around, though. Frisk leaned against the wall and took out her phone, glancing at the time. That was when a little yellow alert popped up on her home screen. [break][break] ATTENTION: Bus routes are canceled due to dangerous conditions. Please take emergency routes through metro. Thank you! [break][break] Frisk groaned loudly. She hated the metro. It was dirty and dark and there were some weeeeird people down there. Regardless, she had to get home, and that looked like the only way. Luckily for her, a metro entrance was right next to this bus stop. Not bothering to open her umbrella, she dashed out of the bus stop and hurried down the steps into the subway station. Surprisingly, it was rather empty. That just made things a bit more eerie. She stepped over to a nearby map and start planning out her route for the evening. It seemed like it was going to be a long ride. NOTES: So I got some ideas for this. I'm going to let whoever join this! If several people join, let's try to stick to a posting order so no one misses anything. If lots of people do join, I'll probably put a posting order on this first post or something. IDK I'm totally just winging this! a grim commute tomorrow will be different from today Anya didn't like the subway--or Metro, as the locals seemed to call it--but it was better tan walking to the bus stop in the torrential downpour outside. So she sucked it up and dashed from her apartment to the nearby stairs into the metro system and purchased a day pass before turning to the map, looking to see how best to get to the diner where she worked. She knew there was a metro stop only a block away, the trick was figuring out which stop on which subway that was.
After studying the map for what felt like forever, Anya was fairly certain she knew where she was going. As she turned to find her subway, she felt her pocket vibrate. Pulling out her phone, she saw the city-wide notice that the buses were out of commission and felt a surge of triumph that she had made the right call in choosing the metro. The triumph was short-lived, however, as she realized the inclement weather would mean a slow day at the diner and lousy tips. Sighing, she made her way through the crowd toward her terminal.

Adam didn't have any destination in mind, he just had to get to the metro and out of this damn rain! He was practically sprinting towards the entrance regretting that he didn't bring an umbrella or put on a raincoat, but his hoodie was doing a good job of keeping the water off of him, at least before he was a block away from the metro. He had made a mental note to have either an umbrella or a rain coat next time the forecast calls for rain.
The metro entrance was in sight, now all he had to do was get in before the crowd of people blocked him out. In his haste, he neglected to slow down at the stairs, and in seconds he found himself on the floor of the metro station, laying on his side. He wasn't in much pain, just confused as to what happened. After taking a moment to figure out what happened, he managed to get back on his feet, holding his arm as it began to feel sore from taking the brunt of the impact.

I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. Asriel was in the metro by choice. It was dark, quiet, and usually uncrowded. Most of the city's, shall we say, "shadow-dwelling" monsters preferred this route as well, so he was by far not the most interesting thing to look at. Well, on a normal day he preferred it. There was an overhead announcement from the transportation authority that most bus routes had been shut down. Great. Already, the crowd was starting to form. Impatient commuters were starting to cram into the station. He hurried his pace a little, knowing he wouldn't get a good seat today. He dashed onto the train and found one last empty seat. He may have to share, but at least he got a window.
Public transport was an artform built on quiet aggression. You had to be assertive, but polite or the whole thing went to hell. Asriel had been there. Not all it was cracked up to be. Eternal suffering meant nothing to a soulless flower. To a teenage human with goat horns, everything was suffering. Funny how tables tend to turn.
Asriel managed to make it to his window seat by squeezing and scooting quickly through the crowd. After pissing off an old man, he claimed his glorious Window Seat just in time to get crammed in by a monster sitting next to him. She was much larger than the seat was made to accommodate. Well, Asriel assumed it was a she. Whatever it was was wearing lip stain on a pair of folds that did sort of look like lips. Mostly she was a mass of tentacles... that were very warm and a little damp. He smiled weakly at her after she apologized and then pretended she didn't exist for the rest of the trip.

Despite everything... ...it's still YOU [attr="class","scroller"]As Frisk glanced over the map, a train shot into the station and came to a stop. An announcement came over the intercom, telling the number of the train and where it was going. Ah! That was the one she wanted. She rushed over to the opening doorways and groaned a little as she noticed the thing was filled to the brim with people, and her stop was the very last one. It wan't going to be fun. Regardless, it was a good hour wait for the next train to come in. [break][break] Frisk squeezed into the doorways and grabbed a nearby pole as she was jostled by the people moving in and out through the doors. It was so crowded in there, Frisk didn't even realize the familiar goat boy that was sitting in the corner. She simply clung to the pole, trying her best not to be knocked to the ground. Hopefully, this crowd would thin out after a couple stops.
Posting Order So Far:[break] Frisk, Anya, Adam, Asriel[break] Others feel free to pop in and join where ever! a grim commute tomorrow will be different from today Anya slipped onto her train just as the doors were closing. It was packed, which Anya detested, but she should have expected it, with the buses being shut down and all. She found an empty space next to a monster--it seemed that even though many people were more accepting of monsters these days, some were still hesitant to stand in such close proximity to them on the subway. She managed a small smile at the stranger as she reached up and grabbed a handle just before the train lurched into motion.
As she neared her stop, her phone vibrated again. A notice from her boss that the diner was closed due to the weather and that she should stay home. Great. Sighing, she got off the subway and headed back around to the map to figure out how to get back to her apartment.

Adam was pushed onto the subway by the stampede of commuters, but it could have been worse. He could have been trampled underfoot by the herd, instead his face had hit one of the standing poles, and a busted lip was better than being crushed by a stampede any day. Sure, he may have been out of the rain, but now he was packed in a big tin can with about a hundred other people. One thing was for sure, this wasn't Adam's day. Well, that's what he thought until he noticed who he was standing next to. Frisk, the girl he had met just the other day. Maybe things were starting to look up for the hybrid, as he had planned on calling her that day, but that was before the rain kicked up and sent everyone in town scrambling to bus stops and subway stations. Instead of saying hello, he gave Frisk a tap on the shoulder, wanting to see if she would be as surprised as he was. (( Asriel ))

I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. Asriel, who was used to a more pleasant commute, was settling in for the long haul. His stop wasn't for a while, so he pushed his ear buds in and dug a book from his messenger bag. He had an interview across town for a part-time job. Though the research center that "created" him said they'd take care of his living expenses as part of their grant, it would be nice to have some spare cash for luxuries. Just something to get out of the house at least.
He glanced up briefly as a new wave of people crowded onto the train. He was about to go back to his book when someone familiar walked on. He felt that strange blush you get when you unexpectedly see someone you know. The fact that it was Frisk didn't help either. She seemed a little preoccupied with holding on and she was also with a boy who she also seemed to know. His face felt hot for a moment as he dug into his pocket for his phone. He tapped out a quick text to Frisk.
"Hey! Behind you!" He sent. If she looked, he would be waving as much as the monster beside him would allow.

Despite everything... ...it's still YOU [attr="class","scroller"]
Frisk continued holding to the pole, hoping that this ride would go by fast. She nearly jumped when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Fully expecting it to be someone wanting her to move, she turned her head. She was surprised however, to see that it was Adam! Frisk gave a warm smile to the other. [break][break] "Oh hey, Adam! Fancy meeting you here... This is the best sardine simulator I've ever been on." Frisk laughed, but she was interrupted by the train lurching forwards on the track. She clung to the pole again, almost falling face first into it. "Geez, I hate the metro." [break][break] When her phone buzzed, she blinked and pulled it out. Reading Asriel's message, she glanced around the car until... there he was! Wow, everyone was riding today. She smiled wide and waved to Asriel, wishing she could go and greet him, but with the amount of people in the car, it was impossible right now. [break][break] The ride lasted for a little while before the intercom dinged in arrival to the first stop. It was one of the larger stations and people filed out the doors quickly. Luckily, it seemed that not many people were boarding. The large tentacled lady seemed to be getting off here as well. Frisk turned to Adam and pointed over at the seats next to Asriel. [break][break] "Seems like some seats opened up. If you're not getting off here, come meet one of my good friends!" With that, Frisk hurried over to the empty seat next to Asriel. "Hey!! I'm so glad to see someone I know. I hate riding the metro, it kind of creeps me out."

a grim commute tomorrow will be different from today Figuring out how to get home had been much easier than figuring out how to get to work, and Anya was soon like a salmon swimming upstream, fighting against the flow of people to get to a train that had just arrived. She managed to slip onto the train just as the doors closed, and breathed a sigh of relief when this one was less crowded than the previous.
Glancing around, Anya saw that the seats were all taken, but there were a number of the overhead hand holds available. She took one near a group who appeared to be together--a darker-haired girl, a red-haired young man, and someone with white hair and...goat horns? Anya shrugged, she didn't have a problem with the human-monster hybrids that had begun to appear more and more as humans and monsters intermingled. It wasn't her place to judge. She took the hand hold and tried her best to not eavesdrop on their conversation.
Adam Reinhart I know that Asriel isn't actually a hybrid but anya doesn't. and adam's app says he's not visibly hybrid so she assumes he's human. |

Adam smiled and let out a chuckle at Frisk's sardine simulator remark. "Yeah, now I know what its like to be packed in a tin can." When the train started to move, Adam was able to keep his balance while staying ready to catch Frisk if she lost her grip and fell. "I know what you mean, lot of sketchy types in crowded places like this. My advice, keep a nice grip on your purse when we hit a stop."
Adam was glad he actually got to see Frisk again. If it wasn't for the downpour on the topside, he'd probably just be walking around town still trying to fix his artists block, but thanks to the rain he was standing right next to the girl he wanted to know better. He hoped he would have good amount of time to do that before they reached her stop. When the seats near Asriel became empty, Adam followed behind Frisk, nodding to Asriel before sitting down beside Frisk.

I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. Asriel sighed in relief when the tentacle monster wiggled her way off the train. He hoped the weather would clear up by the time he had to commute back home. He stretched his shoulder a bit now that he wasn't cramped up and smiled when Frisk and her friend came near. He pushed his fringe aside, subconsciously primping. This was nice, just a handful of people left on the train now. He shot a glance at the girl nearby before turning his attention to his friend. He smiled a little at the comment, having to laugh a little.
"Actually, I usually take the metro." He said with a shrug, "Being underground is second nature to a monster. It's only ever crowded when the buses are down." He explained, leaning so he could see Adam properly as well. He waved with a casual flick of his hand as he smiled. "Nice to meet you." He greeted.
"But yeah, I know these routes pretty well, so I'll make sure you guys get where you need to go if you need help."

Frisk smiled and nodded her head, seeming to feel a little more at ease with things now. She glanced over to Adam, them back to Asriel finally. "Asriel, this is Adam. I met him in the park the other day. Adam, this is Asriel, he's a really good friend of mine." Frisk glanced up at the woman who had elected to stand close to them and gave her a polite smile before going back to talking to her friends. [break][break] The subway doors finally closed as the train inched forwards, slowly at first, then increasing in speed. For the next few minutes, the train slipped into a long, dark tunnel, heading towards the next destination at full speed. As they disappeared further and further into subway, the lights in the train car were becoming noticably dimmer. Frisk glanced up at the lights for a moment, pursing her lips. She never rode the rails much. Was it supposed to do that? Others on the train seemed to notice too, so it wasn't just her. But it was no cause for alarm, it seemed. Probably just the bulbs ready to be changed.

a grim commute tomorrow will be different from today Anya settled in for the long haul--she had almost made it to her stop when she'd gotten the text about not having work, so she had a good 20-minute ride ahead of her to get back to her apartment. When the young lady she stood beside gave her a polite smile, Anya returned it, if somewhat hesitantly. She looked familiar for some reason, though Anya couldn't quite place from where.
When the lights flickered, Anya's eyes darted around nervously. Was that supposed to happen? She'd never ridden the metro much, preferring to stay above ground, but in movies, the dimming of subway lights usually precluded something bad happening. She closed her eyes briefly, telling herself she was being silly, then tightened her grip on her hand-hold and stared off into the empty space at the back of the bus, mind wandering.

"Good to meet you, Asriel." For some reason, Adam began to worry. He started wondering what Frisk meant when she said Asriel was a "good friend." Was that her way of saying they were an item? No, he was being ridiculous, but why? He had only met Frisk a few days ago. It wasn't like he would have a crush on her after meeting so briefly. Sure, there's a chance he would "like" her after that short meeting, but a slim one at best.... right? Adam looked up as he noticed the lights beginning to dim. The lights didn't normally act like that, even if they needed to be changed. His instincts were practically shouting that something was wrong. If it was related to the lights going dim, then that would be a bad move for whoever was behind it. Like his father before him, Adam's magic was strengthened by the darkness, he might even get to try out a few of the moves he was working on. He scanned his surroundings, refraining from giving away his suspicion in case whatever was behind this was on the train with them. (( Asriel ))
